Jure Robic is dead

Jure Robic - one of the greatest cyclist of recent years - on 24 September 2010 after an accident on a training ride near his home town of Jesenice died. Jure was only 45 years old.

For several years he has dominated the long distance bike scene like no other. No one is as long gone as hard as he got by with so little sleep. Legendary was eg. his duel with Dani Wyss at RAAM 2009 - one of his few sporting defeats. But he then 2010 revenge with a convincing victory in difficult conditions.

Jure started his cycling career with the Lip Bled active cycling club. Between 1988 and 1994 he was a member of the Slovenian national team racing. On 19 9. In 2004, he presented with 834.77 miles on a new 24-hour world record. For long distances such as the RAAM, he drove normally about 550km per day. His training volume was over 40000km per year - about the size of the earth.

He has celebrated in recent years about 150 podium placements and over 100 victories in Ultra Cycling: Race Across America : 5 wins, Rookie of the Year 2003 (2nd place at the first appearance), Race around Slovenia : 3 wins, Le Tour Direct : 2 wins.

Jure was a career soldier and his RAAM victory he has achieved with his colleagues and friends of the Slovenian army.
