Ötztal Cycling Marathon 2010 Statistics pickings
The Ötztal Radmarathon is not only a great cycling race. The many participants also provides a large number of interesting data on the start and result lists. As in 2009 available here for stats of Ötztal Cycling Marathon 2010 . As the weather on race day was slightly better than predicted, the race could take place on the original course.
The data come from start and result lists of the race (start list: 08/08/2010, from Datasport ). The analysis was performed with Ruby and OpenOffice Calc. In histograms, the X-axis (0 .100%) in 20 sections, each 5% was divided.

The three oldest starter Jorge Rostgaard (Dk), Dante Violacci (I) and Udo Here (D) were born in 1937 (73 years), the youngest Lukas Neumann was born in 1993 (17 years). For women, the oldest Starterin Alex Inger Andersen (Dk) is born in 1946 (64 years), the latest Anna Pössl (A) 1992 (18 years).
Start List - jersey sizes:
An additional information on the start list the shirt sizes of the participants. As expected, the men with body mass index are from the women. Almost 60% of Ötzi gymnasts wear dress size XS or S:
XS: G 106 (2%), M 31 (0.6%), F 75 (26%)
S: G 532 (10%), M 393 (8%), F 139 (48%)

not specified: G 87 (2%), M 76 (2%), F 11 (4%)
DNS / DNF:
Of the 4812 men on the start list are 3946 (82%) to the start lined up and come at least until the first split in Ötz. For women, there were 217 of 288 (75%). Up to the finish in Soelden have 3748 (78%) men and 194 (67%) managed to women.
from the DNS-age distribution is seen that have in 50 years and many more thrown at the 30-year rather few athletes before the start of the towel.
The DNA analysis by country shows no large deviations from the initial distribution list. If in doubt stayed in bed are Austrian, German and Swiss. Drivers from Italy, Benelux and Denmark have more bite the bullet (or cool) apple. Launched by the drivers are above average number of German remained on the track. Italians and Austrians, having brought to an end ;-)
And what does sorting by jersey sizes? The "thin" have more pinched than the "fat". But when they are on the route of looking the other way around. The "thin" pull through, the "thickness" get more out ;-)
Score - Total:
The winner of 2010 comes from Italy and is called Antonio Corradini (7:03:45). It was 3:28 faster than Emanuele Negrini 2009th For women, the Belgian Edith van den Brande has its superior repeated last year's victory in 7:49:28 and improved her time from last year by more than 4 minutes. The last competitor will come from Germany. Helga Honold (13:33:22) and Josef Stieberger (13:53:26) are dealing with dark managed to reach the goal - just like all 3942 finishers they are victorious over the long haul.
The distribution of travel times can guess the men have nearly the Gaussian-bell curve . In the women were probably too little gymnasts this is a normal distribution to achieve. But one can see that most of the women were more likely to find in the back field.

result - climbs:
The 'big 3 climbs' Küthai (1170 meters), Jaufenpass (1080 meters) and Timmelsjoch (1780 meters) have again a lot required of the participants . Since the ascent to the torch has different characteristics (much flatter, lee ...) can be found here only an evaluation of the first passes. The distribution of rise times for the total 4030 meters of altitude is similar to the distribution of the total travel time.
The highest absolute increase in performance is achieved at the Jaufenpass with 1380m / h, the equally steep rise in support rapid ascent. Then Timmelsjoch (1230m / h) and Küthai (1200m / h). The average of all drivers will be on Küthai with 830m / h at the highest before Jaufen (720m / h) and Timmelsjoch (660m / h). The average increase in performance over the course of the race getting smaller - the legs are tired. On Jaufen the peloton steadily (the histogram has a narrow maximum) - the most reach about 800m / h.
from the standard deviation can be seen that the men driving the increases somewhat smoother - there are no major discrepancies to the front and rear (total men 110m / h standard deviation, the women have 140).

There is virtually on every departure isolated driver to take much longer than any other. Probably have received is defective, the driver will not be any help.

When the men with the women The departures compared, we see that women drive more carefully than men - the maximum in the histogram is on the right. In the diagram to the right as an example the departure from Jaufenpass to St. Leonhard.
result - change of placement during the race:
comparing the placement of the drivers between the passes and the finish in Soelden, we see that there is actually surprisingly large changes. The 'leader' is from the 1557 Küthai made some good, the 'last' lost in the scoring around 2137 seats. From Küthai the field is mixed properly - the standard deviation Change the place is over 400. The closer to the target, the greater are the places related - but even here there are amazing outliers. A driver from the finish in Soelden Timmelsjoch lost 996 seats.
change placement (maximum of lost / gained seats / standard deviation):
Küthai-Sölden: 2137/1557/401
Brenner Sölden: 1513/1450/330
Jaufen-Sölden: 1288/910/190
Timmelsjoch Sölden: 996/126/42
The peak runs (as expected) most evenly. In the area with most drivers there is also the most change in position. We see also in the fast Group, some drivers have fallen heavily - perhaps aids to make the races are then driven to the end.
result - Age Distribution:
Breaking down the distribution of travel time by age, we see that the distribution of the age groups changes only slightly. The peak in the histogram moves while over all age groups slightly backwards but actually surprisingly little. For an endurance contest as the Ötztal Radmarathon obviously the preparation and the attitude is more important than age.
result - country distribution:
Did the Italians or the Germans, the faster cyclist? The winner is again a Italian, who last Valued driver came in 2010 from Germany. In the number of finishers, the Germans win. But the maximum in the histograms lies with the starters in Italy (and also in from Austria) on the left. It seems that the Austrians and Italians, the sportier team sent to the start of Ötzi ;-)
result - shirt size
And last but not least - the jersey size classification. Obviously, the travel time actually distributed to jersey size different. XS, S and M starters are much faster than XL and above. L is in the middle. All finishers are winners
of the Iceman to create distance with the wheel a great achievement.
