Ötztal Cycling Marathon 2010 Statistics pickings

The Ötztal Radmarathon is not only a great cycling race. The many participants also provides a large number of interesting data on the start and result lists. As in 2009 available here for stats of Ötztal Cycling Marathon 2010 . As the weather on race day was slightly better than predicted, the race could take place on the original course.

The data come from start and result lists of the race (start list: 08/08/2010, from Datasport ). The analysis was performed with Ruby and OpenOffice Calc. In histograms, the X-axis (0 .100%) in 20 sections, each 5% was divided.

The three oldest starter Jorge Rostgaard (Dk), Dante Violacci (I) and Udo Here (D) were born in 1937 (73 years), the youngest Lukas Neumann was born in 1993 (17 years). For women, the oldest Starterin Alex Inger Andersen (Dk) is born in 1946 (64 years), the latest Anna Pössl (A) 1992 (18 years).

Start List - jersey sizes:
An additional information on the start list the shirt sizes of the participants. As expected, the men with body mass index are from the women. Almost 60% of Ötzi gymnasts wear dress size XS or S:

XS: G 106 (2%), M 31 (0.6%), F 75 (26%)

DNS / DNF:
Of the 4812 men on the start list are 3946 (82%) to the start lined up and come at least until the first split in Ötz. For women, there were 217 of 288 (75%). Up to the finish in Soelden have 3748 (78%) men and 194 (67%) managed to women.

from the DNS-age distribution is seen that have in 50 years and many more thrown at the 30-year rather few athletes before the start of the towel.

The DNA analysis by country shows no large deviations from the initial distribution list. If in doubt stayed in bed are Austrian, German and Swiss. Drivers from Italy, Benelux and Denmark have more bite the bullet (or cool) apple. Launched by the drivers are above average number of German remained on the track. Italians and Austrians, having brought to an end ;-)

And what does sorting by jersey sizes? The "thin" have more pinched than the "fat". But when they are on the route of looking the other way around. The "thin" pull through, the "thickness" get more out ;-)

Score - Total:

The winner of 2010 comes from Italy and is called Antonio Corradini (7:03:45). It was 3:28 faster than Emanuele Negrini 2009th For women, the Belgian Edith van den Brande has its superior repeated last year's victory in 7:49:28 and improved her time from last year by more than 4 minutes. The last competitor will come from Germany. Helga Honold (13:33:22) and Josef Stieberger (13:53:26) are dealing with dark managed to reach the goal - just like all 3942 finishers they are victorious over the long haul.

The distribution of travel times can guess the men have nearly the Gaussian-bell curve . In the women were probably too little gymnasts this is a normal distribution to achieve. But one can see that most of the women were more likely to find in the back field.

result - climbs:

The 'big 3 climbs' Küthai (1170 meters), Jaufenpass (1080 meters) and Timmelsjoch (1780 meters) have again a lot required of the participants . Since the ascent to the torch has different characteristics (much flatter, lee ...) can be found here only an evaluation of the first passes. The distribution of rise times for the total 4030 meters of altitude is similar to the distribution of the total travel time.

The highest absolute increase in performance is achieved at the Jaufenpass with 1380m / h, the equally steep rise in support rapid ascent. Then Timmelsjoch (1230m / h) and Küthai (1200m / h). The average of all drivers will be on Küthai with 830m / h at the highest before Jaufen (720m / h) and Timmelsjoch (660m / h). The average increase in performance over the course of the race getting smaller - the legs are tired. On Jaufen the peloton steadily (the histogram has a narrow maximum) - the most reach about 800m / h.

from the standard deviation can be seen that the men driving the increases somewhat smoother - there are no major discrepancies to the front and rear (total men 110m / h standard deviation, the women have 140).

There is virtually on every departure isolated driver to take much longer than any other. Probably have received is defective, the driver will not be any help.

When the men with the women The departures compared, we see that women drive more carefully than men - the maximum in the histogram is on the right. In the diagram to the right as an example the departure from Jaufenpass to St. Leonhard.

result - change of placement during the race:

comparing the placement of the drivers between the passes and the finish in Soelden, we see that there is actually surprisingly large changes. The 'leader' is from the 1557 Küthai made some good, the 'last' lost in the scoring around 2137 seats. From Küthai the field is mixed properly - the standard deviation Change the place is over 400. The closer to the target, the greater are the places related - but even here there are amazing outliers. A driver from the finish in Soelden Timmelsjoch lost 996 seats.

change placement (maximum of lost / gained seats / standard deviation):
Küthai-Sölden: 2137/1557/401
Brenner Sölden: 1513/1450/330
Jaufen-Sölden: 1288/910/190
Timmelsjoch Sölden: 996/126/42

The peak runs (as expected) most evenly. In the area with most drivers there is also the most change in position. We see also in the fast Group, some drivers have fallen heavily - perhaps aids to make the races are then driven to the end.

result - Age Distribution:

Breaking down the distribution of travel time by age, we see that the distribution of the age groups changes only slightly. The peak in the histogram moves while over all age groups slightly backwards but actually surprisingly little. For an endurance contest as the Ötztal Radmarathon obviously the preparation and the attitude is more important than age.

result - country distribution:

Did the Italians or the Germans, the faster cyclist? The winner is again a Italian, who last Valued driver came in 2010 from Germany. In the number of finishers, the Germans win. But the maximum in the histograms lies with the starters in Italy (and also in from Austria) on the left. It seems that the Austrians and Italians, the sportier team sent to the start of Ötzi ;-)

result - shirt size
And last but not least - the jersey size classification. Obviously, the travel time actually distributed to jersey size different. XS, S and M starters are much faster than XL and above. L is in the middle. All finishers are winners

of the Iceman to create distance with the wheel a great achievement.

How To Know How Much Gas To Put In A Gbb

Bressanone (South Tyrol) - Bologna

One of my highlights of 2010 season was about 330 km long journey from Bressanone (South Tyrol) on Verona after Bologna on 6 August with my colleague Walter. The weather promised a few of the perfect "Northern Italy Road Days of the Year: Genoa with the onset of deep Nordföhn. The previous day it had rained in northern Italy, a day later it was exceptional in the Po Valley clear. You could see in the middle of the Po Valley, both the foothills of the Alps and the Apennines . This supported the north wind all the cyclists who were heading south.

On Brenner Pass it has rained, the start, we have therefore moved to Brixen. The road was there but still wet, the sky but even in a somewhat friendly gray. Parking is one example. in a parking lot near the station. We started from there at 06:20. Until Trent Thats has several rain showers, the sky was blue from Rovereto. We are a large part of the route from Bolzano to Ala at the Adige Valley bike path down, then take the SS12 (the Distance between the burner and Verona is already in two earlier posts before: Brenner Verona, Bolzano- Valsugana ).

Deadline for arrival in Bologna was the departure of the last train at 18:10, so we had an ambitious timetable and had to create gross just under 30km / h to reach the goal. Alternatively, we would have canceled the trip earlier and would have risen in one of the stations between Bologna and Verona on the train. The navigation system was very convenient. In the Adige valley, you can not do much wrong, but when passing through large cities such as Verona and signposted to lean back roads in the Po Valley can be a lot of navigational errors Leave time.

the center of Verona, we drive around the south before we returned back on the SS12. South of Verona gabs much traffic (rush hour on Friday). The first places Buttapietra , Isola della Scala and Nogara are still in the province of Verona , Veneto . Even before Ostiglia you will reach the province of Mantova , Lombardy region. Ostiglia located on the northern bank of the Po - with 650 km the longest river in Italy. The catchment area is 75000km ², almost the size of Austria.

The bridge at Ostiglia is a striking steel-truss structure, which seems to be a bit long in the tooth. It lies at about 15m above sea level and is the lowest point of the tour. On the southern bank of the Po is Revere . We went on the SS12 to the risk of navigation errors on the narrow side streets Po-level decrease. The track was about 5 km longer than the shortest alternative that has found the route planner. The next places were Villa Poma , Poggio Rusco , Mirandola and Medolla . There we leave the SS12 and then are on the provincial road signs for Bologna followed.

Witzig were different distances on road signs. There were crosses on which the same trip with a few meters distance signs such as "Bologna 27 km 'and' Bologna 36km 'were. Next time I will cross the Po Valley on minor roads. The few miles southeast of Medolla were great: almost traffic-free, single-track roads through deserted places ("closed for vacation" - Ferragosto ). In the middle of a kilometer-long straight gabs suddenly an unannounced roadblock several concrete blocks. With the wheel no problem with the car you have to just turn around.

In a bar somewhere in nowhere I bought water. Older men with black sunglasses were 70s in the shade of trees at 32 degrees with long sweaters at cards. From the trees came the typical for this area 'huhu'-calls of pigeons. lost Those present gave the impression as if only very rarely an outsider of the talks here would hardly Italian. From Campo Santo the road was then a little frequented.

In Crevalcore began the longest straight of the track. The road provides almost an impression of Kansas. It is about 25km straight in the direction of Bologna. Only in San Giovanni are three curves around to the center - the church tower is located right on the line, describes the road.

Ca. 10km from Bologna is Sant 'Agata Bolognese , usually named after the legendary home of the fighting bulls Lamborghinis. Bologna, Bologna Province, Emilia Romagna is a beautiful and with about 370 000 inhabitants, quite a large city. For the stretch of the road sign to the station you should still take into account some time. The station itself was Friday afternoon rush hour too. But it is all worked out - even a "reward" Burger "at the Mac. According to the performance computer kreuzotter.de we have used on the tour about 5000kcal - these are just 0.6 kg fat. It is amazing to me how much energy the body can win from food and how efficiently you move to a road bike. Today we have got by with less than 0.2 kg Fett/100km.

It was a long day - nearly 1,000 km in about 21 hours (320km car, bike 330km, 330km train). The cycling resulted in 4 regions of Italy (Trentino, Veneto, Lombardia, Emilia-Romagna). Now we had three short breaks of about 5 minutes to refill water and in addition a number of stops at red lights. The diagram right shows the (gross) from the average speed each 15-minute sections of the GPS tracks - the three periods and slow at the beginning of the Po valley are clearly visible.

net I had about 31.5 km / h on the speedo (332 km, 10:31), approximately 29 gross (11:28). The small life have thus added up to nearly an hour. The navigation errors have cost maybe 10-20 minutes. The entire planned route away from the burner I had in that time but not done. But I would again get up an hour earlier and go a little slower. "Driving 300 km in 10 hours" The goal I missed by 13 minutes.

I had to Ostiglia around some little energy in the legs and had to repeatedly make a short extra stop. The last hour before Bologna was then better again. In the diet I have to work on, wiedermal I had put too much baggage. There is still much to improve. Still - it was a great day with one of my longest road bike tours. Walter would have done it without problems much faster if he had not waited half way to me. To all Ötztal Bike Marathon-2010 Users: Fear the man with the starting number 255 ;-)

Arc Trainer Calories Accurate

Brixental Venice nonstop - Loop 2010

In February 2009 the idea came to the traditional Festa del Redentore camping weekend in Cavallino to travel by bike. The first attempt was on 7/17/2009 successful and was repeated on 15.7.10. It was surprisingly easy trips in both the approximately 330km to be covered by bicycle. The problem was less the distance but rather the heat in northern Italy.

The two weekends were a great success - mainly because the right people here (photos right from 2010 and 2009). Thank you for the great time at Alexandra, Anita, Sonja, Mike, Helmut, Renate and Peter (r vln 2010).

The Redeemer hard in Venice (fireworks) was traditionally the highlight of the weekend. The festival takes place since the end of the 16th Century every third Saturday in July. It commemorates the end of a plague epidemic, which fell in 1576 50000 people died. The second focus of the weekend was of course extensive relaxing on the beach.

trips in the area eg. on islands in the lagoon completed the program. The public transport system in the area of Venice will take place on boats. Instead of bus or subway, take for example. after Burano a boat. Will most likely want to watch the sunrise on Beach or to have to go into the sunset to the lighthouse Punta Sabbioni. The emptied by the cycling glycogen stores were filled with large amounts of specialties from Italian kitchens and basements again.

The most obvious road bike route from the Brixental destination in Cavallino via Kitzbühel , Pass Thurn , Felbertauern , Lienz , Gailbergsattel , Plöckenpass after Tolmezzo and along with Friuli on Tagliamento in more or less direct line to Jesolo and Cavallino Located on the lagoon directly across from Venice on a peninsula extending from Jesolo - . The distance is about 330km long and has about 3400 meters. are with Pass Thurn, Felbertauern Gailberg and Plöckenpass it 4 longer climbs. The rest of the spread increases to the category 'highway overpass'.

The evaluation of the GPS tracks shows that there were two trips 'weakness'. 2009, I lost between Tolmezzo and San Daniele because of the unusual heat and some navigation errors for 1 hour. 2010 of the heat intrusion came later - on the last 40km I got over 2009 for nearly an hour. I have some long pauses needed to get to their destination at all. If it does not have close to 40 degrees (in the non-existing shadow probably more) had then I would have been in 1 hour quick Cavallino. realize

most important element is a 330km trip to the diet. It is not possible all the calories you consume replace them during the trip. The more energy, water and minerals, but they replaced during the ride back, the longer you can relatively easily be on the road. Has proven to me a mixture of dried fruits, nuts (providing much fat), bars and bananas. Additionally, I have maltodextrin added in the form of gels and powders. The liquid I've tried about 1 / 2 liters per hour to drink - mainly iso-juice (diluted more than recommended by the manufacturer).

Long distances are not long breaks easier. 2010, I paused significantly less than in 2009. Unfortunately, I had the Felber Tauern a long wait. It is helpful if the long range in the head in short stages and divides the rest fades out first. I've driven so 7 short stages (for Felbertauern to Plöckenpass, San Daniele, the Tagliamento bridge to the bar at the intersection of Ca 'Gaiotto (sprint-Cola), to Jesolo and then to the finish) and never had the feeling of long be charged rest of the way mentally. Very motivating it was found in 2010, just before the Plöckenpass a message on the road. A backlight and a front lamp should pack one - there are some moderately-lit tunnel (and perhaps a night-section).

has proven to reduce the baggage as far as possible. To live without a backpack brings a significant gain in comfort. Enough space for luggage provides a saddle bag and luggage box for the water bottle holder. Good work has wiedermal the aero bars, where a GPS can be fixed so that one's current position and other line always in view.

By Brixental and over the Pass Thurn ( Description quaeldich.de ) we follow the best of the main road. The ascent to the Pass Thurn is elongated with a low pitch. The Top-to Mittersill is brought rapidly behind. Average Felbertal ( Description quaeldich.de ) songwriter comfortable only in the morning - up to drive in heavy traffic through the avalanche galleries is probably not as pleasant. The landscape in Felbertal (in the heart of the Hohe Tauern ) but it is worth seeing.

By Felber Tauern Tunnel ( Link2 ) may not be the Wheel drive through. There is a shuttle service of 18 euro (per trip, not per person!) costs ( info here), which however in the morning (before about 07:00) is obviously not available. South do you register by phone (+434875880611, shield or telephone shortly before the tunnel entrance). The north one can ask directly at the toll booth. 2009, I was lucky with Auto Stop, 2010, it took about 40 minutes before someone stopped (for the shuttle service I was too early). Thanks to Richard (2009) and Manfred (2010) for the ride.

Up Matrei you can let it rip again. From Goes to Lienz Matrei through Iseltal and continue through Drautal after Oberdrauburg always easy downhill. Osttirol pleasantly surprising fact is brought behind them - although even here some landscaping is required - the Lienz for example, give the East Tyrolean city an impressive setting.

From Oberdrauburg is the Gailbergsattel ( Description quaeldich.de ) on the program, go shallow and shaded by trees and on summer days enjoyable. The rise of Kötschach-Mauthen from iG to Plöckenpass ( Description quaeldich.de ) was emotionally the longest of the day. There are fewer shadows, the road is partly bad, lots of traffic and some tunnels were before the border with Italy in their way. Video Plöckenpass , Gailberg

On the long downhill to Tolmezzo you feel more and more the "Italy-holiday feeling '. The landscape changes, it was warmer with each turn. It comes in a bilingual area, road signs etc. are in Italian and Friulian labeled. At a stop in a supermarket I've heard times 2009, the language - it took me to a mixture of French, English and Italian recalls.

Tolmezzo followed by a piece of the Tagliamento , a river with some impressively wide river bed. The broad gravel plains can be seen on satellite images, for example. Google Maps for clear even from a distance. The Tagliamento is due to its naturlbelassenen streambed as one of the last wild rivers' of the Alps. It must be a spectacle, when the wide river bed fills with water after heavy rainfall.

Up San Daniele del Friuli 2009 have ego tries on minor roads, from there, but recognized that it is more convenient is a slightly longer distance to drive, but to have a good road and do not look every few km at an intersection after the road to have. 2010 I am from the main road through Tolmezzo Carnia drove to San Daniele, which was much trouble as the fumble 2009th

Further south we went first to Porto Gruaro on the SS463 , later on roads accessible by the navigation through to Eraclea Jesolo . The final sprint on the road to Cavallino was then a slalom through the tourist-jammed. As 2009 already I had the feeling to be in Jesolo at the destination already - the Cavallino Peninsula is surprising long.

The tour Brixen-Cavallino was in both 2009 and 2010, the racing season climax.
